Orange Cove Police Department Reserve Officer Program
With our current economy it has become increasingly difficult for people seeking a career in law enforcement to not only get hired on by a law enforcement agency, but to maintain the P.O.S.T. (Peace Officers Standards and Training) requirements that all law enforcement applicants, and agencies, in the State of California are governed by. This is why the Orange Cove Police Department offers a Reserve Officer Program for qualified applicants to further/begin their career in law enforcement.
The Orange Cove Police Department’s Reserve Officer Program offers police academy graduates, and people currently attending a police academy, an opportunity to further their career in law enforcement by working alongside experienced Police Officers in the field of law enforcement. Reserve Officers volunteer their time spent working with the Orange Cove Police Department, but are treated with the same level of respect, value, and standards, as our full time Police Officers. Reserve Officers will be provided with two sets of uniforms and all designated attire and safety equipment. Reserve Officers will be required to complete a full F.T.O. (Field Training Officer) Program, which is the same training program all Orange Cove Police Officers are required to complete prior to serving as a Police Officer for the Orange Cove Police Department.
The Orange Cove Police Department is looking for applicants who have a strong self motivated work ethic, integrity, morals and values they are willing to stand up for, a high level of professionalism, and the desire to always improve in everything they do and are tasked to do. An application for employment with the City of Orange Cove is required to apply for the Reserve Officer Program (applications for employment may be picked up at the Orange Cove Police Department, Orange Cove City Hall, and downloaded from this website under the “Download Center” link), and any additional documents (resume, letters of recommendation, certificates, etc.) shall be attached. Applicants will also be required to accompany Orange Cove Police Department Officers on at least two, five hour (or longer if approved by a Watch Commander), ride along details (applications for a ride along may be picked up in the lobby at the Orange Cove Police Department. The contact person for the Reserve Officer Program is Corporal DeLeon and he can be reached by phone at the Orange Cove Police Department at 559-626-5106.
Applicants considered for the Reserve Officer Program will go through an oral board interview, an interview with the Chief of Police, and the same background check, investigation, polygraph, psychological and medical testing as any of the full time Police Officers staffed at the Orange Cove Police Department. Anyone hired on as a Reserve Police Officer will be required to serve at least 16 hours per month with the Orange Cove Police Department’s Reserve Officer Program, and complete a full F.T.O. Program with at least 516 hours of training before being released from the F.T.O. Program. If a full time position becomes available at the Orange Cove Police Department, Reserve Officers hold priority for these positions as the Orange Cove Police Department prefers to promote staff members from within the department.
